So back on the 14th of the month my Xbox 360 Elite decided that it would be fun to read every disc as a DVD movie–I however did NOT think so and sent for a label from Microsoft to get it fixed at an out-of-warrantee cost of ~$90. I didn’t really mind that I would be without it for a week or two since I had a backup–or so I thought.
My backup was my 20GB pro system that I had fixed last time back in May of last year. The pro was fine for a few days, then on this past wednesday when I went to pickup Mirror’s Edge, I got home and decided not to skip the tutorial even though I’ve run through the tutorial a million times now. I got through most of the tutorial and then the system suddenly shut off, I look over at it and see what every 360 owner dreads to see–the Red Ring of Death (officially known as 3 Red lights), and so it’s back to Microsoft with that one, too! They should be getting it the same day I get my (hopefully fixed) Elite back.
Another cruelly ironic thing with all of this is that over the weekend they announced that they were letting some more people in the public preview, and I was one of them, except with NO WORKING 360!!!

Woohoo, I finally got to pickup Halo 3!
I started playing through the campaign mode so I can finally finish the damned story! Frak cliff-hanger-endings! Anywho, I got the Collectors edition (the special edition without the helmet model), and I have to say the extras disc is nice, too bad I have to work so damn much this week, otherwise I’d be playing it a hell of a lot more than I’ll be able to for now. I do have to say though that it’s awesome playing it in full 1080p, the game is frakking gorgeous. But that’s all for now, time for bed.

Pure and frakking simple you have to play this game. BioShock is easily the best game I have played in a long time.
For the the uninitiated, BioShock is a crazy story that takes place in an underwater city named Rapture along with all the crazy genetically altered psychos. Basically, (possible spoilers) you start out as the unnamed protagonist surviving a plane crash near a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean, upon entering said lighthouse the chaos ensues and you learn of all matter of plasmids (like throwing lightning or fire or a swarm of bees) and hacking of course, too. All this is just the means to the end of getting off the island alive.
Easily one of the most interesting interactions in the game is with the so called “protectors” a.k.a. the Big Daddys and the “gatherers” a.k.a. the Little Sisters. The Little Sisters go around collecting adam (which is what you collect to upgrade your skills) and have the Big Daddies there to protect them from the denizens of Rapture. Along with the little sisters there is the seemingly controversial choice of saving them (and thus returning them to non-zombie form for a lesser amount of Adam) or harvesting them (for maximum Adam, but killing them in the process). All in all the game is frakking amazing and you owe it to yourselves to go out and buy the game now.

Part 5
Well, I finally got the 360 back, or as the boilerplate letter in the box says “a replacement system for quicker service”.
Oh well, it’s back, it works and I have an Elite now… I guess it’s time to sell it.

Well, I’m finally getting around to posting about it, Prince of Persia Classic on Xbox Live Arcade. It’s frakking awesome. Pure and simple, this is the way that remakes and ports of retro games are supposed to be done, none of the crap that they (the devs) have been pushing out with the likes of Galaga, Frogger, etc… So at least there is hope that more devs will learn.
Anywho, I spent many a time playing the original on the olde Mac that we had. Heck, we still have the original instruction manual wherein at the bottom of page it has the prince running and jumping over spikes flip-book style. In any event, it’s definitely worth a purchase. I even purchased it without first doing the trial version of the game—which is rare—but that’s also based on the fact that all the signs pointed to the fact that they didn’t screw it up. Another thing is the little additions that they made, like running and jumping off a wall to a ledge above-and-behind you make the game experience that much smoother. All this boils down to the fact that if you have an Xbox 360 you need to go-now-and-buy-this-game-this-very-instant, spend the 800 MS points/10 bucks for it, you won’t regret it.

Part 4
So I decided to check the status of my Xbox yesterday, and lo, it’s at the Service Center now! Sadly, that’s all their service website shows… So it’s not too much help at all… Oh well, at least I have my Elite to keep me company.

Part 3
I finally got the box today! But since it’s the weekend, fat lot of good that’ll do, way to frakking go Microsoft!
In the mean time I actually picked up an Elite, so at least I can still play my games and such while getting the old one repaired. Once I have it repaired I’m gonna sell it now as I have the Elite.

Part 2, continuing from last nights post.
So I called up the support number again today, and as quickly as humanly possible I told the guy my Xbox 360 is broken. Simply having to give him the ‘Service Request Number’ from the email I posted about yesterday, and then having to repeat myself for posterity and say that yes, any disc I stick in my xbox 360 will refuse to read it and say it’s an Unplayable or Unreadable.
After we get that squared away he checks to see if my 360 is under warrantee (I doubt it but I humor him anyways), and of course it expired back in January which was after I expected since I got the unit within the 1st week the 360 was released.
Anywho, the dude on the phone said that I should get a box in the usual (3 to 5 business days), and then ti should take 1 to 2 days to fix it, and then another 3 to 5 days to get it back. In other words, pretty frakking slow!
So for the next week or so I’m going to be stuck without a working 360… Frakking microsoft…

So this all started this past sunday. On saturday I finally got around to playing the Halo 3 beta (through Crackdown), and played it for a few hours, then stopped for the night.
Sunday, I decided I wanted to play some crackdown, then probably some more Halo 3 beta. But when I turned on my 360 and it got to the dashboard, at the bottom of the screen where it’d normally have the game name, it now read “Unplayable disc”. No matter how many times I ejected and reinserted the disc it would not load the game. Frustrated I stuck in another game (Smackdown Vs Raw), and proceeded to play that for that day.
Fast Forward to monday after a day at work I was going to wind down with my 360 and decided to try Crackdown again to see if the system had seen the light yet, but no, it had not. So I filled out the webform for support on the Xbox website and proceeded to get the same canned response twice (the disc is dirty, the disc is damaged, try the disc in another system, blah blah frakking blah). So I decided to privately say F’ You to their innanely canned email system and try the 800 number.
After a fairly long wait (which at my work would mean fines for the business) I got ahold of someone who helped me to clean the 360′s cache to see if that would fix the problem (it didn’t), so they gave me a reference number. After all that I hung up un-helped with a broken xbox (from the launch no-less), I then decided to see if any of my other (roughly 30) games would work. None of them worked at all. So I tried the fracked up email system once more and got the same canned response again when I explicitly stated the fact that no disc whatsoever worked in the system, let me say that again in case you didn’t comprehend it the first time, NO DISC WORKED AT ALL, and they sent me the same message saying the one disc is damaged or dirty.
Apparently all the people Microsoft hired for tech support failed reading comprehension in school. I guess I’ll have to waste another 20-30 minutes on the phone with them tomorrow to hopefully get this resolved once and for all.

The first two real packs of downloadable content are now out (and no, the 4 new skins don’t count). Go grab it now!
The first one up is the “Free-for-All” download pack. First off is the Keys to the City mode, which basically is a mode where you can run around the city and spawn any of the cars in the game, exploding barrels and you can turn on God mode and the like as well. And one thing with the mode is that Achievements and the leaderboards are turned off for obvious reasons.
The other pack is the really good one (though it costs 800 points). The “Getting Busy Bonus Pack” is the one with all the real goods. Three new vehicles (the buggy, advanced racer, and armored vehicle), street racing over live, and some new weapons and game types.
Anywho, that’s my little summary and if you want more check Here.
