Preface: I had originally started writing this post back around the beginning of September, but finally bothered to finish it and post it now…
Yay I finally got my new TV. I got a 32″ 1080p Sharp Aquos LCD, and in a quick 2 word summary it’s frakking awesome.
I have to say that after upgrading from my older HDTV that only did 1080i and 480p, the difference is night and day. The Aquos does a pretty good job of displaying regular TV and not making it look too out of place compared to newer HD stuff.
I love the full 1080p display on this beauty though, and with my Xbox 360 Elite having HDMI on it I get FullHD out of it, playing on anything less seems weird after a while though…
Now I just have to get a better sound system…
Woohoo, I finally got to pickup Halo 3!
I started playing through the campaign mode so I can finally finish the damned story! Frak cliff-hanger-endings! Anywho, I got the Collectors edition (the special edition without the helmet model), and I have to say the extras disc is nice, too bad I have to work so damn much this week, otherwise I’d be playing it a hell of a lot more than I’ll be able to for now. I do have to say though that it’s awesome playing it in full 1080p, the game is frakking gorgeous. But that’s all for now, time for bed.
So my brother and I went and saw the new Resident Evil movie today, and I have to say it wasn’t bad. For starters as any good sequel it builds off its predecessors nicely. Still following Alice (Milla Jovovich), we now see how royally frakked over the Umbrella Corporation has made the world. Basically think of how the world is in Command & Conquer, except where there’d be Tiberium in C&C there are zombies in RE. Extinction continues the trend of bringing actual characters from the game over into the movies, this time with Claire Redfield (Ali Larter). Also in keeping with the backwards order established in the second film, the main bad guy ends up being the boss from the second game. Go figure.
Anywho, go see it, it’s actually well put together (though they seem to have dropped almost all of the horror elements), and at least if you’ve seen the other ones you’ll probably enjoy this one.
Pure and frakking simple you have to play this game. BioShock is easily the best game I have played in a long time.
For the the uninitiated, BioShock is a crazy story that takes place in an underwater city named Rapture along with all the crazy genetically altered psychos. Basically, (possible spoilers) you start out as the unnamed protagonist surviving a plane crash near a lighthouse in the middle of the ocean, upon entering said lighthouse the chaos ensues and you learn of all matter of plasmids (like throwing lightning or fire or a swarm of bees) and hacking of course, too. All this is just the means to the end of getting off the island alive.
Easily one of the most interesting interactions in the game is with the so called “protectors” a.k.a. the Big Daddys and the “gatherers” a.k.a. the Little Sisters. The Little Sisters go around collecting adam (which is what you collect to upgrade your skills) and have the Big Daddies there to protect them from the denizens of Rapture. Along with the little sisters there is the seemingly controversial choice of saving them (and thus returning them to non-zombie form for a lesser amount of Adam) or harvesting them (for maximum Adam, but killing them in the process). All in all the game is frakking amazing and you owe it to yourselves to go out and buy the game now.
Ahem, the executive summary to Stardust (with possible spoilers:
Stardust is about a guy named Tristan who goes after a shooting star to prove his love to a girl, and ends up finding his true love — which just happens to be the star that fell from the skies.
But the movie is so much more than just that simple premise, Easily the closest movie comparison would be to A Princess Bride, and that can only be a good thing. Of course nowadays movies have all the crazy cool CGI, and in that respect not only does Stardust not disappoint, but does not go overboard as well. After I got home I actually went on amazon and ordered the book of it (the fully illustrated version).
Anywho, go see it, I’ve babbled enough about the movie now. Go see it, again, a few times.
Aye Carumba, man! I’ve joined the Cult of the Cell Phone people. Going through work I didn’t have to do any kind of deposit or prepay for any of the equipment, which was nice. I ended up getting the Samsung M520, which is basically an M500 in slider form. Too bad most mobile services don’t recognize it yet since Qwest is not one of the “Major” carriers, maybe once Sprint picks it up then it’ll be better supported (like through Pandora). I’m slowly getting my number out to friends and family.
W00t! My copy of 300 on HD DVD came today, this made me very happy after a long day of work. So I watched it tonight of course, and it’s still as frakking awesome as it was in theaters, granted on a smaller screen. So go get it now if you have an HD DVD player, or go get the regular DVD version (or even [shudder] Blu Ray).
As for the special features, I’ve only gotten a chance to look at some of the videos in the special features, haven’t watched the PIP yet, but will definitely soon.
Go see Pan’s Labyrinth now if you haven’t already. It’s that simple. Now!
Even though the movie is all in spanish and I don’t speak spanish, the english subtitles are excellent (and apparently were written by the writer/director) and the imagery in the movie does so much to spell out everything, it’s just too good. 5/5 for those who care.
I originally wanted to see the movie Black Snake Moan in theaters, but never got around to doing so. But when it came out on HD DVD I made sure to have it at the top of my netflix queue to finally see it, and am I ever glad I did. For those who don’t know here’s the one line plot outline from IMDB: A God-fearing bluesman (Samuel L Jackson) takes to a wild young woman (Christina Ricci) who, as a victim of childhood sexual abuse, looks everywhere for love, never quite finding it.
One thing I have to say about the movie is you just have to go with it (like the whole woman-chained-to-the-radiator thing), if you can’t do that, then you’re never going to enjoy or get anything out of the movie, which would be sad. And it’s got Sam Jackson singing the blues! After seeing the movie I actually went and got the soundtrack since I liked the music so much. Anywho, go rent the movie, and if you like it (like I did), then go buy it (like I did). 4.85/5
OMFG! I’ll just start by saying that. I just got back from seeing the movie and immediately want to go see it again. It’s great to see (almost) all of your favorite Autobots and Decepticons on screen and kicking each others asses. Simply put you must go see this movie! Screw whatever negative reviews you might have read, because honestly after seeing the movie the only negative I have about it is the annoying the schizoid (frenzy). So yeah, that’s about all I can think of at the moment. 4.5 out of 5, if not a full 5/5.
